Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center is launching a program called Wisdom for Wisdom, that will give one local student a wisdom tooth extraction free of charge and assist with growing educational expenses.
Parents and students are paying more for college than ever before, in part because of increasingly expensive class fees and textbooks. These materials are necessary for students to succeed in their studies, yet many of them are finding it difficult to make ends meet.
In this program, a complimentary wisdom tooth removal will be provided to a local student, giving them the opportunity to focus on their schooling, instead of tightening their budget due to medical bills.
“When we give this gift to a student, they will use the money they would have spent for this procedure on their textbooks,” Dr. Ardavan Kheradpir explained. “It is our way of putting to use our years of schooling in a way that helps future students achieve their dreams, like we were lucky enough to achieve ours.”
“No student should have a poorer education just because they cannot afford their textbooks,” added Dr. Allen Chien. “We wanted to create a program that would really support local students and their goals to achieve success in higher education.”
According to the Bureau Labor of Statistics, current textbook prices have risen over three times the rate of inflation since the BLS began tracking in 1977. Since the start of 1977, textbook prices have seen a rise of over 1041%. The oral surgeons hope this program will create much needed financial relief for the recipient and their family.
The application period runs July 5 to July 12. To apply for this opportunity, students and their parents will write a short essay and complete a quiz after watching an instructional video found at the practice’s website: www.fresnooralsurgery.com/wisdom.
The practice will announce the recipient and update the public on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/fresnooralsurgery.
About Wisdom Teeth:
Wisdom teeth usually come in around the ages of 17 and 25. There is simply not enough room in the mouth for these teeth to grow in properly. If the patient’s wisdom teeth are impacted, or there is not enough room in their mouth to accommodate the teeth, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon will remove them.
If these impacted wisdom teeth are not removed in a timely fashion, then oral health issues could arise including infections, dental crowding, and damage to adjacent teeth. Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center is well known for wisdom teeth removal in Fresno, Clovis, Reedley, and Madera.
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons undergo extensive schooling to be trained in the administration of anesthesia. On top of dental school, they attend hospital residency, making them the most qualified doctors to perform oral surgery procedures like wisdom teeth extractions.
