Local oral surgery practice spreads awareness of growing problem of poor oral health

oral17aOne local oral surgery practice is determined to save as many smiles as they can through an innovative educational outreach program.

With the launch of Project Save A Mouth on January 18th, Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center is moving forward with a community-wide initiative to teach children about the importance of oral health and provide dental hygiene materials to children in need in the community.

“Project Save A Mouth is so valuable because it is available to our community online through our website and offline through several partnering dentists,” Dr. Gerald Alexander, DDS, oral surgeon and founder of Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center, said. “If we can prevent some oral health issues as a result of these resources, we’ve done our job. We hope to get the word out and raise awareness.”

Sometimes children don’t have access to proper dental care. For Children’s Dental Health Month, Fresno Oral Surgery is looking to take their project one step further. In “I Save Smiles,” in the entire month of February, the practice will be giving away “I Save Smiles” t-shirts to their patients, who are encouraged to share a photo of themselves wearing the shirt on Facebook and Twitter.

For each photo posted, Fresno Oral Surgery will donate a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste to a child in need through a local homeless charity. As an added incentive, a special prize will be awarded to the patient who posts the photo with the most Likes during the month.

This encourages participants to share the program with their friends and family, furthering the reach of the cause and spreading more awareness throughout the area.

Information about Project Save A Mouth is available at www.projectsaveamouth.com/Fresno.

The website showcases the negative effects that poor oral health can have on the entire body and what preventative measures should be done now to avoid the consequences.
